Saucy, sexy and just a little bit slutty. 3 words to describe the indescribable sensation that is Shadow. But do they actually care?
“I don’t understand why people think that when they call us all that we see it as a bad thing. It’s exactly the look we’ve gone for, the 6 years years we’ve been together. We’re true Geordie girls, what the hell do people expect?!” says Rachel.
So with a worldwide tour coming up in Autumn after their first album was released only 7 months ago, surely all this fame has gone to both Rachel and Toni’s head? Oh God no, they walked into our studio with sweats on, a football top and holding their fast food. Not only that, they did their own hair and make-up.
Toni justifies this by saying “Why would we change just because we have a bit of money, I’d rather focus on supporting my family and having fun than someone do my hair and make-up, I’ve been doing it myself for years, why couldn’t I do it now?”
With Shadow’s tour hitting 78 different venues in 11 different countries from their hometown Newcastle in the UK to the Newcastle 10,434 miles away in Australia. 78 venues in 156 days many experienced artists would struggle with that!
“Why would we start off small? We wanted to throw ourselves in at the deep ends and give ourselves a challenge. We’ve been doing small venues for years, there can’t be much difference can there?” Rachel blushed
Brit nominations are an honour for every single artist out there, to two 17 year old girls it must be incredible! The girls received 2 nominations: one for their single ‘Always let me down’ and one for their debut album ‘Petticoat’, ruthlessly pipped at the post in photo finishes by One Direction and Adele.
“We were shocked to be nominated! We never ever expected to win, did you guys see the people we were up against!? It was a privilege just to be around them. But hey, you never know next year!’ Toni said with a cheeky wink.
